用了两个网络数据包工具：tcpdump和wireshark。前者偏重于捕获包，后者既有捕获能力又有一定分析功能。

我用下面的命令存下tcpdump输出，然后交由wireshark分析：

$ tcpdump -X -vv net 66.114.52.0/24 -w dump.txt

wireshark有点象逆向工程工具，很多数据得自己琢磨。如果网卡（interface）消失，就以root用户启动。

justniffer看上去更棒、更便捷、更适合非专业人士使用。它能直接把分散在多个包里的报文重新组合，并且编码为正常字串输出。

有时候水龙头里流出的水是云样的，看上去象奶白色的碳酸饮料，而且过一会就变得清凉透彻了。这是因为水中溶解的空气释出为大量小气泡造成的。从Massachusetts Water Resources Authority抄了个不错的解释如下：

Why does my tap water look cloudy this winter?

Question: The hot and cold water from our kitchen sink sometimes comes out very cloudy. If we leave the water in the container, it then clears up quickly and the cloudiness disappears. Should we be using this water, even after it turns clear?

Answer: Cloudy water, also known as white water, is caused by air bubbles in the water. It is completely harmless.

It usually happens when it is very cold outside because the solubility of air in water increases as water pressure increases and/or water temperature decreases.

Cold water holds more air than warm water.

In the winter, water travels from the reservoir which is very cold and warms up during its travel to your tap. The air that is present is no longer soluble, and comes out of solution.

In addition, once water from our reservoir enters the transmission and distribution pipes, the water is pressurized. Water under pressure holds more air than water that is not pressurized.

Once the water comes out of your tap, the water is no longer under pressure and the air comes out of solution as bubbles (similar to a carbonated soft drink). The best thing to do is let it sit in an open container until the bubbles naturally disappear.

java方法重写

java方法重写（overriding）要点：

不能重写被标示为final的方法；
静态方法不能被重写为非静态的方法；
重写方法的访问修饰符一定要大于被重写方法的访问修饰符（public > protected > default > private）；
被重写的方法不能为private，否则在其子类中只是新定义了一个方法，并没有对其进行重写（即如果不能继承一个方法，则不能重写这个方法）；
重写方法的参数列表必须完全与被重写的方法的严格相同（不能为子类），否则不能称其为重写，而是重载；
重写的方法能够抛出更少或更有限的异常（也就是说，被重写的方法声明了异常，但重写的方法可以什么也不声明）；
重写的方法所抛出的异常类型必须和被重写方法的所抛出的异常一致，或者是其子类；
重写的方法的返回值类型必须和被重写的方法的严格相同（不能为子类）。

关于如何写日志：A Note About Git Commit Messages

三级内容：working tree，index，repository。index好似一个中间缓冲区，add指令把相关内容由working tree送到index，commit指令把index中需要提交的内容提交到repository。注意：log不属于index，而属于repository。
tree类似于directory，blob类似于普通file；tag类似于书签。各种object之间的关系如下图所示：
在当前分支中检出到某次提交（会更新index）：
$ git checkout rev3141592 make.py
显示树形日志：
$ git log --graph --all
这个更美观：
$ git log --graph --full-history --all --color --pretty=format:"%x1b[31m%h%x09%x1b[32m%d%x1b[0m%x20%s"
这个命令太复杂了，可以保存到配置文件（.gitconfig）中：

可以使用图形工具giggle显示git项目。
撤销到某次提交，会增加一条回退记录，更新working tree。撤销上次提交：

项目根目录增加.gitignore来忽略文件
用reset移动头（HEAD）指针以重置到某次提交。更新或不更新index和working tree，详见https://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/git-reset.html。注意要区分“重置（reset）”和“检出（checkout）”：后者在涉及branch切换的情况下更新index，否则一般只更新working tree；而且前者只是对提交进行操作，无法重置单个文件。
Search key words and display the line number:
$ git grep -n office report.tex
B push到A后，A的working tree中不能显示B的内容，得：
$ git reset --hard cccccc
对branch做注释（1.7.9以后的功能）：
$ git branch --edit-description
把另一分支中的某个文件更新到本地，最好通过手工复制的途径；另外，可以考虑使用rebase直接移动分支到某次提交；第三，下面通过检出来更新单个文件，可能会损失日志记录：
$ git checkout source_branch foo.txt
rebase：一个常规用例是，在项目开发中，旁路分支开始于主分支主干接口确立的时刻；经一段时间开发后，主分支（upstream）的主干接口被丰盈，此时要将主分支中的主干接口改变应用到旁路分支中，使用rebase对旁路分支在主分支上进行整体推进；rebase后，旁路分支的分叉点在主分支的倒数第二次提交处。
制作补丁：把提交R1到R2的差异导出为补丁，然后将补丁打到当前分支头部：
$ git format-patch -k --stdout R1..R2 | git am -3 -k

这是我暑假时从一本书中抄录的，删掉了访谈者的问话，仅留下相对重要的部分，独白式。选取的三人两个是北大物理系的，一个清华电子系的（一般全国最聪明的几个人都集中在这些系）。并非考上哈佛的就都很了不起，但是这三位确实是真正的天才（我从那一年所有考上哈佛的的人中选取的Top Talented Person）。我内心非常震撼。以至于发表个人言论都显得无聊。个中滋味自己体会吧。只有奋斗二字最真实，其他都是浮云。
一：
（汤一乔，重庆人，1984，高中时物理、数学、生物联赛省赛区一等奖，2003保送北大物理系，2007，哈佛大学，物理学博士，全额奖学金。本科期间在国际学术刊物发表过六篇论文，全被SCI收录）

其实，有一些非常重要的决定是突然间想到并且去做的，我认识一个在美国加州理工学院读过博士的北大学长，聊天时他跟我说，“你在做一些很重大的决定的时候是一种很随意的表现。”往往是有很多发展方向你都觉得很重要，你很难决定哪个更重要，而且当时你的认识是有限的，那么就不要想那么多，而是选一个把它做好就可以了。那位学长当时也想出国，但嫌考GRE麻烦，于是决定保研，后来决定出国读博士后，在伊利诺伊大学和加州理工学院之间选择，考虑了很久决定不下来，他睡了两天，起来时第一个想到的是加州理工，于是决定去加州理工。两年后去斯坦福读了一年博士后，之后考虑是否回国，北大工学院院长邀请他回北大，但他在斯坦福有一个很好的发展机会，他想了想就回国了。

有句话是这样说的：“随心地去做你喜欢的事情是会把它做好的。”

我听过巴特的一些音乐，虽然音乐是艺术，但是也非常理性，让人认识到在人世间该怎样生活，还有宗教信仰，也是很有规律的东西。

我认识一些非常让我崇敬的老师，他们很正统地像我传教，有一个老师跟我说：“恭喜你拿到哈佛的OFFER，但是，你是否知道---哈佛最先是为了培养牧师而创办的。”另一个老师，也是哈佛毕业的，他送我两本书，其中一本是《法拉第的故事》，法拉第是一个虔诚的基督徒。宗教会让一个人变得谦和，安稳。
我看过很多诺贝尔奖获得者的传记，有些人真的很伟大，能跟做一些影响人类的事情才是最有意义的。。。。
大一时看过很多文学类书，学习成绩不是很好，有一门计算机课期中考试还挂了，只考了四十五分，期末考试勉强及格，大一下学期又有一门计算机课考得不好，只有六七十分。当时很郁闷，但也没办法了。
刚上大三时设计了一个实验，考完托福和GRE后，去台湾新竹的清华大学交流四个月。后来去到台大。几经周折，找到一个博士生跟我一起做。我只是本科生，很多技术细节不懂。他们说i，“有些工艺太复杂了，你可能做不出来。”我想不会吧，没有放弃。在那个领域做得最好的是一个德国人，他是德国西南部一所大学的教授，我冒昧给她发了一封邮件，想请教一些问题…..我的英文信写得很长，特别详细，发过去一星期后，他给我回了一封长信，比我写的信还长，特别详细。后来我跟他一直有联系，他说将来他到美国开学术会议时会去哈佛看我。
直到离开台湾回北京，也没有把那个实验做出来。回到北京后，台大的那个学长告诉我，他继续做那个实验发现一个非常奇怪的现象，就是有一个周期性的变化，我们是测电流，用光打一个样品，后来我跟那个德国教授讨论，他说他已经有了这个理论，但是一直没有观察到这个现象。我把这个实验过程和观察到的现象写成一篇论文，最后在国际学术刊物上发表了。
从台湾回来以后，去内蒙古参加一个研讨班，跟几位外国教授探讨了一些问题，完了又写了一篇论文。
在中科院半导体物理研究所，通过我导师认识了一个朋友，我在那里搭了一台仪器做实验，完了又写了一篇论文。
虽然取得了一些成绩，但是觉得自己做的东西太初级了，希望做一些更有挑战的事情，后来就多听讲座，多跟教授交流。有一次跟加州理工学院的一个博士后聊天到凌晨四五点，蛮有收获的。视野打开了，思考的东西也多了。
推荐信一般是三封，我的是七封，两封是哈佛毕业的老师写的，一封是斯坦福校友写的，一封是加州大学校友写的。
像MIT和加州理工，他们就是录取我们系里的国际奥赛金牌获得者，我们系这一届，进校时有三个国际物理奥赛金牌获得者，今年毕业他们一个去MIT，一个去哥伦比亚大学，一个去宾夕法尼亚大学。
我觉得年轻人有一点很重要，就是敢想敢拼。一定要敢想，一定要敢去做自己想做的东西。你要敢去想别人认为不可能实现的东西，就是要有梦想，要敢走跟别人不一样的路。
从小学到初中，到高中，到大学……我一直都是保送，这跟很多人是不一样的。小学升初中时，全市三千人参加考试，只招80人，我语文成绩第二名，数学倒数第二，最后被招进去了；从初中保送高中，是因为参加数学竞赛得了一等奖；上了高中后，我参加了物理、数学、生物竞赛都拿到一等奖，最后以这个成绩保送北大。记得准备生物竞赛是从寒假开始的，在这之前我参加生物考试，考了年级倒数第二，满分60分，只考了30分。当时我想搞竞赛，别人都不理解，我调侃说：“玩一玩，反正闲着没事干。”我准备了四个月，最后我考的成绩是全市第四名。
我的体会是，你要敢去想，当时我准备一个实验时，很多人劝我说这个实验你是做不出来的，因为连基本的实验仪器都没有。但我认为努力十次可能会成功一次，那么努力一百次就可能成功十次。你要敢去尝试，也许开始是失败的，但是总会有成功的时候，做事情你必须坚持这样一种信念。
我在台湾清华大学时，有一个学长非常厉害，家庭条件不是很好，他花一年时间就做一件事情，就是搭一台实验仪器做实验，那台仪器原来有一个耶鲁的老师搭了两年都没弄好，而他用了一年就完成了。搭仪器的过程非常艰辛，要学很多东西，比如做一些电路板，你要去请教专业做电路的人，做控制，就要请教编程的人…….最后总是漏电，他请教各种各样专业人士都没找到原因，结果他发现是因为自己用了过期的胶水。这是以前怎么也想不到的。后来他把这个实验做成了。当时耶鲁的教授直接要他去耶鲁读博士，可他放弃了，他说自己要参加工作，因为家庭条件不好，他想赶紧工作挣钱。后来他跟我说，他有一种信仰，他觉得上帝会给每个人机会，他只要不断尝试，上帝一定会给予成功的机会。
我有一个毕业于哈佛的老师一再跟我强调，“作为一个物理学家，在别人看来也许非常了不起，有深刻的思想，对自然的认识非常透彻，但是他在真正的自然面前只是一个小孩而已。”
我看过一些诺贝尔奖获得者的传记，不管他们取得多大的成就，他们都说自己做的太少了，不知道自己为什么那么幸运获得了诺贝尔奖。。。。
如果非要定一个目标的话，我希望自己将来的科研水平是诺贝尔奖级别的。

我的高中是在人大附中念的，我所在的数学实验班非常非常好，我在那个班呆了六年，到现在我都觉得在那个班的经历是我人生宝贵的财富。班里很多人都比我聪明，我现在都至少能说出五六个比我聪明的人学生，还有一些人是和我差不多的。我已经习惯了一个群体里应该有10%的人是比我聪明的，这样自己才能更好地成长。要是你身边的人都比你笨，你还学什么呢？这就跟和臭棋篓子下棋越下越臭是一样的。但是在清华，我发现环境的压迫感反而小了，我发现比我聪明的人并不是太多。我不敢说自己是最聪明的，但至少是最聪明的学生之一。读了一年之后，我觉得清华没有我想象的那样好，聪明人没有那么多。我觉得根本问题在于中国的高考制度并不能真正反映人的聪明程度。…….
大一大二我就是为了分数而学习，聪明的人想要获得一个高分绩是很容易的事情，只要好好上自习，好好做练习，好好准备考试，考个好成绩真的很容易。我大二的学分绩非常非常高，简直高的吓人，所以包括第三年我都拿了很高的奖学金。…..
大二我拿了很高的学分绩之后，回想前两年的生活，虽然别人觉得我很牛，但我觉得真的很恶心。。。。。
我们模电老师跟我们讲过：“既然你学完就忘，那你为什么还要学呢，这就如同去森林打猎，你不是为了猎物，而是为了把枪法练好，这样下次就能打到更好的猎物。”但我觉得这还不够，对于真正的精英，重要的是，学完课你应该变得更聪明，而且你对这门课真正有了理解，而大学前两年我恰恰忽略了这些东西，所以我有点怀才不遇的感觉，就想换个环境，就想出国留学。清华的考试真的不难，因为他出题不敢太难，出题太难的话，有的学生考不及格会自杀的。在清华你想考不及格真的很难，你想考80分，我觉得稍微努力一点点就可以了，你想考90分，当然要聪明一点和努力一点，但也是不会很难的。关键是你以什么养的心态去面对。如果你想考95分，最稳妥的办法就是把所有老师布置的作业做一遍，考试前再看一遍，然后再把以前的考题看一遍，书上的内容看一遍，内容都有印象，然后参加考试，肯定能考95分。
其实，你可以换另外一种方法，想想那些物理概念，用形象的东西思考一下，培养一下你的物理直觉，这比那些该死的物理公式重要得多，这才是你以后研究真正要用的东西。除非你能理解公式是怎么推导出来的，否则你记住那些公式以后也没用。。。。。
考TOEFL我一分钟都没准备，GRE虽然上了培训班，但没什么用处，GRE的单词你会就会，不会就不会。。。。。
如果你是清华第一，人家知道你聪明，肯定会要你，但如果你是清华200名，即使你GRE考满分，人家凭什么要你呢？如果要你，还不如要一个美国人，他的英语肯定比你好。所欲出国的程序很简单，没有什么技巧，就是靠实力。
从高三毕业出来的时候，我们班的同学都是生龙活虎的一群人，但是现在同学聚会，和北大物理系的同学聊天，我会明显地感到自己缺乏活力。这时候会很自卑，尽管我在清华的学分绩很高，但是这有什么用呢? 每次参加高中同学聚会，都会比较一下我跟同班同学的交流是怎样的，比如我跟北大物理系的三个同学交流，如果发现自己变笨了，我就会明显有自卑心理。
。。。。我历来有优秀品德，从来没一次套过两个教授。。。。
把我拒掉的学校是MIT,加州理工和伯克利，理由很简单：因为我还不够优秀。我觉得心态要健康，又不是只有中国学生去申请这些学校，还有其他国家的学生，比如俄罗斯、以色列、伊朗、印度，以及美国本土、德国等。人家并不比你笨。凭什么你是“清华第一”人家就一定得要你？没准俄罗斯去的那个学生也是学校第一呢，人家就录取了那个学生。
。。。。我上大一的时候就断绝了继续在清华读两年研究生的念头，我上大学的前两年一直在困惑、迷茫，后两年则为前两年的困惑迷茫而后悔。
我有为科学做一点贡献的梦想，但是痛苦的是，中学六年读下来，我可以说我真的足够有天赋，但是这种东西却在变化着，并不是说我现在就是天才。大学四年读下来，经历过这种桎梏式的学习之后，我真的没有自信说我真的很有天赋了。我真的要到哈佛那边看一看我跟俄罗斯人、以色列人、美国人等外国人当中那些最聪明的人差距有多少。没准有一点点可能我比他们聪明，但是我又觉得不太可能。。。
我觉得没有必要去计划，这就像你在清华呆了一年后和你刚进清华的时候想法完全不一样，所以我现在没有任何想法，我要享受现在的生活。
在中国这样的一种选拔制度造成了最优秀的人几乎都集中在这两所学校，而且就在这么几个系里。。。。但身临其境地讲，在这边确实做不出来太好的研究，这不是钱的问题，而是风气的问题。。。
在清华四年，我没有变的更聪明，而是变笨了。我觉得主要的原因是缺少跟像样的人的交流，平时我应该跟“像样的人”多聊一聊，我们确实需要智慧的碰撞。大学四年大部分时间都是自己一个人学习，生活挺空洞的，挺苦闷的。不知我这样，几乎所有的清华人都是自己一个人学习。
如果你自习了一天，即使这一天都觉得不爽，但是当你在晚上十点四十骑车回来的时候，嗖嗖凉风吹着你，你你还会觉得挺爽的，觉得生活挺充实。
但这种充实是假象，两年前我就被这种充实迷惑了一开始觉得，既然自己想学，那有什么不对呢？这就是完美的学习生活。其实这是不对的，你应该更多地学会独立思考。
人大附中实验班，50人，女生18人。气氛非常好，优越感，精英意识，课堂气氛是外人无法想象的活跃，学生可以随便提问，老师经常比不过学生，经常败下阵来，我觉得这样老师也很享受。每门课都有几个同学超越了任课老师，比如有一个同学化学学得特别好，我们就称他为“宗师”，我有什么化学问题都问他，它的化学和物理都特别好i，他进了化学和物理的全国奥赛冬令营，后来去北大数学系了。
寒假数学奥赛班，高二之前，我是什么状态呢？是潇洒的生活状态，每天的主要目的绝对不是学习，而是想怎么跟同学快快乐乐地玩，怎么享受生活。有人叮嘱我好好学习，但我并不在乎学习，因为我心里知道自己肯定能考上清华北大。
当时（寒假奥赛班时）我身边坐着一个女生，她是青岛二中的，她是超级聪明，青岛二中是非常好的中学，她跟我说，连这么好的中学，每年考上清华北大的学生都是凤毛麟角，有时连一个都考不上。有保送上清华北大的，通过高考考上的并不多。他跟我说了一些后，给我的震撼非常大，我觉得北京的孩子太幸福了，于是反思。。。
在高二暑假，有一个由全国最有名的己所中学组成的夏令营，每个学校派三名学生参加，有人大附中，还有几个真正横扫天下无敌手的中学，有著名的黄冈中学，长沙一中，湖南师大附中，青岛二中，复旦附中等等。在夏令营里，每周都有一个考试，然后算总分，满分是310分，我考了140多分，人大附中另外两个同学还不如我。试题特别难，能考140多分，我特别满意，因为已经发挥出水平了，到现在都感觉是一种荣耀。那帮“牲口”（指学习特别牛的人）有考300分以上的，好多人能考两百多分，跟那帮“牲口”呆了一个月，我知道了他们是怎么思考的，并且引以为傲。全国搞数学竞赛的牛人就那么几个，我融入这个主流了，是他们中的一员。
全国奥赛北京赛区一等奖。学校有保送资格的人太多了，就以高三第一学期成绩排序。正好那次我考了海淀区第一名，当时是海淀区统一命题出卷，那次我真的发飙了，于是以这个成绩保送上了清华。
又想起青岛二中那个女生，我跟她好像两个世界的人，她的学校有可能一年一个清华北大都考不上，你即使是这个学校的第一也不能考上，这是什么感觉？而我们人大附中，你在学校八九十名也能考上清华北大，这又是什么感觉？如果让我跟那个女生交换一下，让我去读青岛二中，我想自己完全不是现在的状态。
小时候我唯一参加的是数学奥林匹克培训班，而且现在每逢家长就说一定要让小孩参加数学奥林匹克培训班，因为它会让小孩变得更聪明。
我超级喜欢音乐，喜欢古典音乐，《神秘园》那样的音乐，还有外国流行音乐也很喜欢，我对国内的流行音乐一无所知，现在流行的什么《….》，实在太难听了。
曾经后悔过没去北大，当自己看着北大物理系的高中同学一个又一个比自己牛时，心里就会产生悔意。。。。
我的终极梦想有两个：一个梦想是去西班牙的马德里看皇家马德里的足球比赛，另一个梦想是拿诺贝尔奖，就是说要从事科学研究，并不是说要成为一个卓越的科学家，而是要追求真理，这种梦想不是后天树立的，而是与生俱来的，我就好这一口。
成功不只是真理，还有很多东西很美，做数学题比做化学题和该死的语文题要美得多。。
初中高中一起六年，有的女生真的几乎没有和她说过话，但现在聚会，还会为做了六年同学而骄傲，她确实非常优秀，人品也很好，很让人欣赏。真正的友谊并不是那种哥们儿天天一起出去喝酒，很多友谊是君子之交淡如水。
心动过，但是没有实际行动，因为还有很多冲动可以跟那种对异性的冲动比一比，比如踢足球，对女孩子心动只是所有让我心动的事情的十五分之一，当你觉得在这方面不是特别牛的时候，你会去干剩下的十五分之十四的事情。。。音乐，足球。。。

以前我很喜欢看那种科普书，当时霍金的书在国内很流行，我就想有朝一日成为霍金的研究生，然后去研究基本物理学。想将来去剑桥大学跟霍金做研究。后来发现霍金并不是世界上最厉害的科学家，于是改变了想法，并不一定要跟什么人做什么东西，踏踏实实走科学研究的道路就可以了。
去年暑假面临出国和保研的选择，我询问了一些老师和项目合作者，大家说国内也有很好的科研环境，发展也很快，但是有人建议说，像我这样的年轻人，在年轻的时候应该出去闯一闯。
很多老师认为我只要考一下英语就行了，像我这种背景的学生肯定能去美国一个很好的学校。我的老板（实验室的导师）跟我说：“你申请美国前十的大学就行了，其他学校都不用申请。当时我很没自信，我都不知道“申请”是个啥概念，我也很忙，一起合作做科研的老师有上海天文台的，北京天文台的和北京大学的，还有美国，英国的老师。我只能挤出一点时间背单词，不像其他同学全身心准备出国。
申请的时候，我已经心里有底，有一些学校肯定会要我，我的老板在国外有一些熟悉的合作者，在德国有一个研究所，是德国最好的一个研究机构，他们跟我表示，如果我愿意去的话，他们肯定要我；美国俄亥（读hai！）俄州立大学的天文学专业排名能进全美前十，有一个教授刚从哈佛去了那里，他特别希望我能去他那里做研究……可以说已经有保底的学校了。
我不是很喜欢考试，我是一个专心于钻研学术的学生，其他的事不是特别关心。我出国的唯一目的就是提高自己的学术能力，接受最高水平的学术锤炼，将来做一名一流的科学家。我参与科研比较早，我所了解的国内的科研环境不像别人说得那么糟，我的合作老师都是从国外留学回来的，他们做的都是世界一流水平的科学研究。当时我想待在北大的一个比较大的动力是北大天文系刚刚创办了一个Kalve（天文天体物理）研究所，这种研究所在世界上只有斯坦福、剑桥这样顶尖的大学才有，是专门针对我所研究的领域的，而且有充足的经费邀请世界一流科学家来短期访学，所以我觉得没有必要出国留学。后来觉得自己趁年轻应该出去多跟人交流，拓展知识面，将来可以带一些新东西回来，自己做科研也比较有优势。
父母不大愿意让我出国，因为太远。但是他们很尊重我的意见。从小到大，父母只给我意见，决定权在我手上。
前两天我在老家时去看望高中语文老师，走前跟老师道个别。他对我印象特别深。以前他教我们语文时，要求我们平时写日记，然后每周他都要收起来看。他看到我的日记里到处流露着要做物理学家的想法，他跟我说：“学校里有好多学生参加物理竞赛是为了保送名牌大学，比较功利，但是从来没见过像你这样真正喜欢物理而执着地追求的。”
有一次上语文课，讲讲到一篇科技说明文，语文老师在课堂上问大家，谁来讲一下这篇课文，大家都说，苏萌来讲！我就说，好吧，我来讲。结果我把那节语文课上成了精彩的物理课，语文老师对我的印象特别深，他不由得感慨：“什么样的人就能把语文课讲成什么样子。”
我儿时的梦想就是想做跟宇宙、天文相关的研究，对于宇宙、天文有一种特别的好奇心，这个梦想驱使着我逐渐走上这条科研的道路。从小到大我一直没有改变过这个梦想。你问我从什么时候开始想从事这方面的研究，我很难说出具体的时间，最开始我都还没有天文这概念，我望着夜空中的星星，就想着研究星星到底是什么东西，我们这个世界到底是什么样子….出于一种好奇心，想回答自己内心的问题，后来才逐渐转到天体物理的研究上来。我为什么把一生的奋斗目标定格在这个方向上？是因为儿时的梦想一点一点具体化了，我现在想研究的东西正是儿时的梦想，所以我要申请这个研究方向出国留学。
我不是特别看重学校的牌子，我更看重专业以及教授。有人提醒我，“哈佛有许多潜在的可以指导你做科研的老师。毕竟你在本科做科研只有两三年，有些东西并没有完全看清楚，如果只想奔着那几个老师去，很可能是错误的选择。”我的老师也说，“在哈佛读书和做研究会有许多潜在的优势，有很多资源可以利用。”
我拒掉几个OFFER后还剩六个OFFER，分别是哈佛大学、斯坦福大学、哥伦比亚大学、约翰霍普金斯大学、俄亥俄州立大学和亚利桑那大学。普林斯顿大学问我去不去那里，如果答应一定去就给我OFFER，当时已经有了哈佛，就没有答应。波士顿那个地区学术氛围很好，MIT也在那里，可以在哈佛以外的大学学到很多东西，就像我来了北大以后，也可以在中科院或清华学到一些东西一样。
我现在要去的哈佛天体物理研究中心，是世界上最大的天文研究机构，有三百多个教授，有很多研究方向。在我决定去哈佛之前，我跟我这个研究领域的一流教授交流不下一百个，聊到做什么样的研究，毕业后去哪里……最后心里是有底的，这个决定是理性的。我以前都没想到自己能挑选这么多世界一流的大学，我有机会去伯克利，有机会去普林斯顿…...我申请普林斯顿的那个教授去了瑞士苏黎世大学，我想跟他去那个学校，当时苏黎世大学要给我每年五万美元奖学金，而且全部都是生活费，已经免掉了学费，她给我的是爱因斯坦奖学金，每年全校只给一个人，而这唯一的名额给了我，我当时特别感动。
我真的是发自内心喜欢这个领域的研究，我花了很长时间看了这个领域的上千篇文献。我每天都是自己去查最新的文献，比老师们先看到这些文章，然后找老师交流，老实说：“不好意思，我还没顾得上看呢。”
我把北大可以开出的物理实验和我研究方向相关的课程（包括本科和研究生）都上过，最后我可以以物理系和天文系毕业，这两个专业的课我都上过，拿到的学分足以毕业。
一个人在很小的时候做某些事情，真的是出于人的本能，以后在做这些事的时候，有最强大的力量在支撑着他。一个人沿着发自内心本性的路走下去肯定不会错，可能会有困难，但是你会有持之以恒的力量去战胜它，你就不会觉得辛苦，反正我就不会觉得辛苦。
在大一的时候，我在一周之内上六十个学时的课，特别高兴。学校规定一学期只能选二十五学分的课，但有一学期我至少上了五十学分的课，每次上完课我都特别高兴，因为学到了以前不知道的东西。
现在哈佛读完博士，再去读一个博士后，一定要成为在美国人看来是一个顶尖的科学研究者，让美国人愿意跟我合作要让自己成为世界一流的科学工作者。
做到什么样的水平那是别人定义的成功，而我自己认为的成功是，问自己最希望得到什么，以什么样的状态生活。比如我一直充满好奇心想了解这个自然界，我沿着儿时的梦想去做这样的事情，我希望这种生活是最快乐的，最自然的，而不是受到社会很多束缚的扭曲的生活，我想做一个非常朴实的自己，如果能做到这些，我觉得自己就是成功的。
有时导师跟我说：“很多时候做学术并不像你们想象的那么简单，不是说我有这个兴趣就去做学术了，而是需要静下心来，需要积累，有时也特别枯燥，经过训练让自己慢慢成长起来，即使你已经很努力，也需要一点点积累，这个过程很漫长，很多人坚持不下去就半途而废了，有的是能干几年，但觉得自己不合适，没有这方面的能力，于是慢慢淡出学术界。”
六年前，北大有一个女生被哈佛天文系录取了，她在哈佛天文系读了三年后转读经济，她就是被其他东西吸引走的，从而放弃了搞学术。
有一个师兄跟我说，打个比方，一个比我差的学生也去美国留学，去了华尔街做金融行业，等我博士毕业的时候，我拿到的年薪只是四五万美元，而那个在华尔街干了几年后拿到的年薪却是一百万美元，就是这样的差别！还有人选择去做公司，赚的钱也比我多得多，那么你心里会怎么想呢？如果你做学术的信念不是很坚定的话，很容易半途就被别的东西吸引走。
我从那些一直在做学术的老师那里深刻体会到做学术的激情，我希望自己也能像他们那样不被名利所改变。上大学之前，我的周围没有一个人像我这样，在我上中学的班里，一说到“物理”大家就说“苏萌”，他们把这两者用等号划上了，他们都称呼我为“物理天才”，当时我在学校特别出名。现在一些同学听说我要去哈佛读物理，他们都觉得很正常，都认为应该是这样的。前两天我们的高中同学聚会，有一个同学跟我说：“如果将来你不做物理研究，那将是我一生中所知道的最不可思议的事情；如果你将来转专业去搞经济，我无论如何也不会相信。”

Constant concurrency vs constant access time (roughly!)

They're essentially horses for courses: they both have different behaviour in terms of (a) time of operations on the map as the size increases, (b) contention and time of operations as concurrent accesses increase, and (c) the overall time of operations if you need to access the data (or a subset) in sorted order.

With a ConcurrentHashMap, time to perform operations (inserts, removes, updates) is essentially constant whatever the size of the map (with very occasional "blips" when the map needs re-hashing). With ConcurrentSkipListMap, as with a plain TreeMap, the time increases by a roughly constant factor every time the number of items in the map doubles. (On my off-the-shelf AMD dual core, that factor is roughly 1.5.) This means that for most practical sizes and small numbers of concurrent threads, ConcurrentHashMap provides faster access in raw terms (with a size of 16 thousand entries and 4 threads, ConcurrentHashMap is about 4 times faster on my test machine).

However, ConcurrentSkipListMap has at least two interesting features in return for poorer access time:
(1) the keys are kept in sorted order, with fast methods to pull out any sorted subset;
(2) it is highly concurrent: with a given size of map, access time is practically constant however many threads are concurrently accessing it; although ConcurrentHashMap provides "good" concurrency, contention and access times do ultimately increase with concurrency. So although with 4 threads, ConcurrentHashMap is faster in raw terms, there'll reach a certain number of threads where ConcurrentSkipListMap overtakes it. (N.B. In practice, I think this will be scores of threads, though.)

So it depends a bit on if you need constant access time or constant concurrency, and/or permanently sorted keys.

For some measurements on ConcurrentHashMap, you may be interested in an article I put up about the performance of ConcurrentHashMap. I'll be adding similar information about ConcurrentSkipListMap fairly soon.

ffmpeg is a powerful tool to convert multimedia formats. Working with ffmepg generally walks along the routine below:

checking information of the original file (bit rate, frame size, etc.):
$ ffmpeg -i input.ogv
converting to expected format:

There are two ffmpeg options impacting the size of output: -b and -ab. The former is bit rate (bit/s), and the latter is audio bit rate (bit/s). `-b 128k' is correct syntax. Other interesting options are:

-threads specifying how much ffmpeg threads
-loglevel specifying information dumped (fatal is a good choice.)
-target automatically setting related options with respect to this option (dvd, ntsc-dvd, pal-dvd, etc.)
-bufsize setting video buffer verifier buffer size (in bits)
-r setting frame rate (Hz value, fraction or abbreviation), (default = 25)
-s setting frame size-aspect setting aspect ratio
-sameq using same video quality as source (implies VBR---variable bit rate).

先写入门知识。影音文件主要分为两类：影音编码，影音容器（或影音封装）。外行总是用“格式”一词涵盖。

影音编码（coding）跟压缩技术（compress）有很大关系。h.264（mpeg-4之一版），x.264，xvid，wmv，vp8，libtheora，等（这里有个列表：http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_codecs#Video_codecs）一般指影音编码标准；avi，mkv，mp4，mov，flv，rm，ts（或mts、m2ts），ogg，等（这里有个列表：http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Container_format_(digital)#Multimedia_container_formats）一般指影音容器标准或实现。根据文件扩展名判断影音技术是不确定的，因为计算机上的文件（例如rmvb）有些即是影音编码的实现，又是影音容器的实现。

一个经验公式（我提出来的，未经检验 :-)）：影像清晰度 = k * (总比特率 * 帧率 / (分辨率 ^ 2))，k是影像清晰度系数。在进行影音编辑时，不应只考虑输出的质量和格式，更应该考量播放设备（普通电视机，高清电视机，wii，xbox等）。目前，普通DVD的比特率（即码率）区间在（3000k, 9800k），保守区间(4000k, 7200k)。刻碟的时候得据此考量，播放器太次的话播不了较高比特率的碟。

Is it true that learning becomes harder as aging? Listen to complain and to performance from adult friends around you---maybe, it is. As the first generation immigrant, I confront more experience of learning a new language, not only from myself, but also my national friends. ``I'm too old to learn a foreign language: It's almost two years after I've landed, but my language skills are limited.''

However, some study shows adults' learning capability is more powerful than kids. Then why people feel harder to learn when becoming older? The secret lies in the `feeling' to `difficulty'. Just see how old some human being baby speaks out the first word: around one year's really full-time learning. And then around 9 years for reading and writing. As adults, few people can contribute around one year in that condition: not only learning a language, but thinking in and feeling that language. Adults have much really complex things to deal with, which occupies most time of learning something. Worse, as adults, we have seen and have felt what difficulty is. Such feeling blocks our endeavor to learning and leads to complain to some extension---babies don't know what difficulty is and how difficult learning is.

So, just leave that negative feeling out from your internals, and then you grab right status for learning.

Thus, when an occasional "blowout" to O(n²) is tolerable, we can expect that, on average, quick sort will provide considerably better performance - especially if one of the modified pivot choice procedures is used.
Most commercial applications would use quicksort for its better average performance: they can tolerate an occasional long run (which just means that a report takes slightly longer to produce on full moon days in leap years) in return for shorter runs most of the time.
However, quick sort should never be used in applications which require a guarantee of response time, unless it is treated as an O(n²) algorithm in calculating the worst-case response time. If you have to assume O(n²)time, then - if n is small, you're better off using insertion sort - which has simpler code and therefore smaller constant factors.
And if n is large, you should obviously be using heap sort, for its guaranteed O(nlog n) time. Life-critical (medical monitoring, life support in aircraft and space craft) and mission-critical (monitoring and control in industrial and research plants handling dangerous materials, control for aircraft, defence, etc) software will generally have a response time as part of the system specifications. In all such systems, it is not acceptable to design based on average performance, you must always allow for the worst case, and thus treat quicksort as O(n²).
So far, our best sorting algorithm has O(nlog n) performance: can we do any better?
In general, the answer is no.
However, if we know something about the items to be sorted, then we may be able to do better.
But first, we should look at squeezing the last drop of performance out of quicksort.

java构造函数

每个类都是调用自己的一系列构造函数中的一个。
被调用的构造函数中没有super调用的话，将先依次调用基类的默认构造函数，且都是在调用完基类构造函数后才执行本身构造函数内的代码。
任何类，只要定义了一个带参构造函数，同时没有定义默认构造函数，那么java不会为其提供默认构造函数。

下面是从这里整理的：

子类在初始化的时候，Java将自动调用基类的默认构造器；
当基类只有带参数的构造器时，子类的构造器必须显式的利用super关键字调用基类的构造器；
当基类有多个构造器且其中包含默认构造器，而且子类不显式的调用基类的构造器时，Java将自动调用基类的默认构造器；即：父类并不一定要有默认的无参数构造器。分为两种情况：
有默认构造器，那么子类在不显示调用有参父类构造器的时候，会隐式调用该默认构造器。
没有默认构造器，那么子类必须显示调用有参父类构造器。
又：隐式调用父类无参数构造器的情况：
父类仅有无参数构造器，子类肯定会隐式调用；

Java clone方法既深copy

Object类中的clone方法是protected的，要提供给外部使用，必须（直接或间接）实现标志接口java.lang.Cloneable。

容器类（ArrayList等）提供的clone方法只是浅copy（shallow copy），即重新生成并保存了指向目标类的一系列指针。要实现深copy，必须通过新容器对象的添加方法添加目标对象的clone。如：list_x.add(obj.clone())。即目标对象应很好地实现clone方法。但目前，传统的clone方法设计模式在泛型编程时会出现问题：

1963年，一位叫玛莉•班尼的女孩写信给《芝加哥论坛报》，因为她实在搞不明白，为什么她帮妈妈把烤好的甜饼送到餐桌上，得到的只是一句“好孩子”的夸奖，而那个什么都不干，只知捣蛋的戴维（她的弟弟）得到的却是一个甜饼。她想问一问无所不知的西勒•库斯特先生，上帝真的是公平的吗？为什么她在家和学校常看到一些像她这样的好孩子被上帝遗忘了。

西勒•库斯特是《芝加哥论坛报》儿童版栏目的主持人，十多年来，孩子们有关“上帝为什么不奖赏好人，为什么不惩罚坏人”之类的来信，他收到不下千封。每当拆阅这样的信件，他心就非常沉重，因为他不知该怎样回答这些提问。正当他对玛莉小姑娘的来信不知如何回答是好时，一位朋友邀请他参加婚礼。也许他一生都该感谢这次婚礼，因为就是在这次婚礼上，他找到了答案，并且这个答案让他一夜之间名扬天下。

解决Debian声音输入噪声太大

近来Debian的声音输入（音频、录音）有非常大的噪声，摸索了一下，主要是Alsa Mixer设置不当，录音选项中的Digital和Mux两项（图中A和C）应进行调整。我先在的机器要把Mux调到最低，Digital调到较低。

对复合类型，记住一点：同是等号（“=”），赋值是赋值，计算是计算。赋值把一个对象（同一块内存）绑定到多个名字；计算是把一个名字绑定的对象复制一下，然后绑定到其它名字。

例如，现在有个序列m = [0, 1, 2]，下面这个是赋值：

k = m

k.remove(2)后：m = [0, 1]。下面这个是计算：

k = list(m) # 或

k = m[ : ]

k.remove(2)后m不变化：m = [0, 1, 2]

对字符串、数字等基本的、不可变类型，每次赋值都是创建副本的操作：

a = 0

b = a

执行a = 1后：b = 0。

emacs临时绑定一个elisp函数到某个键组合

Characters used to recognize/draw the borders of the table can be specified with the help of the following variables:

table-cell-horizontal-chars

Contains a string. All characters in string are valid horizontal delimiters for the table. The first character of the string is used for output.

table-cell-horizontal-char

Contains the character used as the vertical delimiter. “|” by default.

table-cell-intersection-char

Contains the character that appears at the intersection of rows and columns. “+” is the default.

The following settings give interesting results. They use utf-8 characters to draw continuous lines for the border of the table. Arguably, your font should support these character to display the desired effect.
